Planning for Tomorrow
However large or small your financial accumulation, careful Estate Planning can ensure that your life’s rewards are shared with the people and causes you love. Without planning, the assets you have worked for may not be distributed as you wish.

Life income plans such as Gift Annuities, Deferred Gift Annuities, and Charitable Remainder Trusts all offer tax advantages now and in the future, while providing guaranteed income for you, and for AAFCS and your other favorite causes.

A Revocable Living Trust allows you to change your trust to accommodate changes in your life or your family’s needs, and a gift of Life Insurance enables you to make a larger gift than you might believe possible.

The Benefits of Having a Will
A Will Bequest is simple and lasting, protects your wishes, and may offer federal and state estate tax savings.

Each person’s will is also a reflection of values held. By remembering AAFCS in your will, you further the influence and effectiveness of future generations of family and consumer sciences professionals. Your thoughtful generosity ensures a living legacy—enhancing your contributions to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

The AAFCS Legacy Society
Over the years, members of AAFCS have generously provided legacies for the continuation of our profession in the future. If you choose to assist AAFCS through your will, please let us know by calling, writing, or emailing us. This allows us to express our appreciation for your support by welcoming you to the AAFCS Legacy Society.

As a member, you will lead the way for others, as you have all along, in keeping the future bright for our profession and those we serve.

Members of the AAFCS Legacy Society receive a distinctive pin and annual invitations to special recognition events. (Wearing the pin not only demonstrates your financial commitment but also may serve as a valuable reminder to others.)

All anonymous requests are respected.

The Gold Legacy Society
Fifty-year members are eligible for additional benefits and recognition by joining the Gold Legacy Society. If you are a 50-year member, you can start deferring your annual membership dues (effectively becoming a lifetime member) by taking two steps:

  1. Making a charitable contribution of a minimum of $1,000 to AAFCS
  2. Providing AAFCS with a copy of your will or other planned giving document naming AAFCS as beneficiary of a minimum of $5,000

Then, each year when you receive your dues renewal notice, instead of writing a check, you can just send us a current copy of your will or other planned gift document, verifying that AAFCS is still in your estate plan for a minimum of $5,000.

It’s a wonderful way of helping AAFCS ensure its future, while recognizing your many years of membership.

If you are already a member of the AAFCS Legacy Society and a 50-year member, all you have to do is make your $1,000 charitable contribution today, and send us a current copy of your will indicating that AAFCS is included for a minimum of $5,000. Your dues will be deferred for the coming year!

How to Word Your Gift Document
When you include AAFCS in your will or other planned gift, please use our full legal name and address, and consult an attorney to ensure validity. The following is sample language for a will:

“I give, devise, and bequeath $_______________ (or _____ percent % or the residue of my estate) to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, 1555 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 for its charitable uses and purposes (or for the project of your choice).”

If You Already Have a Will
If you already have a valid, up-to-date will, you can have an attorney prepare and attach a codicil naming us as a beneficiary without having to rewrite your entire will (suggested wording above).
